Breanna Mollan‘s project is based on her muse – a woman that lives in a very isolated area in the Scottish highlands. This woman appreciates the peace and quiet of living alone and spends her time caring for the land she lives on. Yet, the subject still gets excited for every Sunday, when she can see her friends and family at the church on top of the hill. This helped Mollan to design a blend of whimsical, floaty clothing and outerwear. She has designed a collection to help her muse feel protected from the harsh weather, but also able to dress appropriately for church. Through this, Mollan explored the wild Scottish landscapes and scenery, which is seen especially through colour pallet and print.
Mollan took the majority of inspiration from her personal life of living in the Isle of Skye whilst growing up. Using personal imagery featuring herself and her sister, a lot of influence in her design has come from oversized hand-me-downs, as featured in many of the photographs. Mollan also took the inspiration of not dressing appropriately for the weather and having to chuck a jacket or jumper over the top of fancy clothes.
