Komm wie du bist, German for ‘come as you are’ is a final year project that looks into the personification of the emotions through binding and constriction, particularly around the chest area.
Something done usually by AFAB (assigned female at birth) people to constrict the curvature and shape of their natural chest and ultimately flatten and give it a more masculine appearance.
Each outfit is a steady transformation from the heaviness and discomfort that is chest binding, from the euphoria and freedom that is being able to show one’s chest freely. Sci-fi elements show throughout the concept boards alongside statements like ‘wired differently’ to indicate that we are not limited to one model and are constantly updating and upgrading our appearance to feel comfortable in our skin.
“This project takes heavy elements from goth subculture, sci-fi and brutalism to lend a hand in its ultimate creation. Things that I grew up with and have a heavy influence over me, and as a transgender man who has went through the ritual of chest surgery, I wanted to give those who saw this project an insight into the emotions I had felt, my influences and ultimate outcomes.”
