A Vagabond Nobility

The polar opposites of overconsumption and homelessness are investigated in Laoise Hamilton’s Graduate Collection, A Vagabond Nobility. Homelessness and poverty are huge, growing issues. To be homeless is to have your identity defined solely by your economic situation. During her placement year in London, she was shocked by the contrast between “busy Oxford Street where a lot of money is spent, and the person sitting on the floor outside”. A Vagabond Nobility honours the creativity and initiative of people who form ‘make do’ looks with assorted garments; conversely it depicts what an individual would be left with if they continued the bad habit of overconsuming goods; a combination of ‘make do’ and to glam to give a damn.

A Vagabond Nobility
"Someone who belongs to the highest social class in the country, yet a wanderer with no settled home. The exploration into the life of a person who is not thought to be a part of society. Alongside the human races tendency to overconsume, my collection speaks what an individual would be left with after continuing with the bad habit."
