In today’s world of disposable consumerism, with everything so easy to obtain we become less appreciative of things. Against this background, Cheuk Man Au has researched and created ‘restored objects’. Visualising abstract emotions, she then uses a variety of different repair methods to repair these, the repair of objects becoming a metaphor for emotional repair as the three-dimensional heart shape is restored through different restoration methods and materials.

“We will possess many objects throughout our lives. Most are mundane, and we often neglect and underestimate our emotional attachment to them. I wanted to give these objects a symbol of emotional connection, because the way we use them allows them to participate in our emotional events. I used everyday repair methods as design inspiration”

Friends Who Fall Asleep Together
"Many people have an innate attachment to plush dolls, a phenomenon psychologists call ‘soft attachment’ which usually becomes apparent in early childhood. In my childhood, I also had a lot of furry "friends". Every night, I would put them neatly by my side and cover them with quilt carefully. This collection combines plush and sewn elements to express emotional restoration."
