Lucy Parry’s final project, titled Nuances, encompasses the exploration of plaster and canvas to create 3D effects, illustrated through a triptych. The works aim to reveal different processes visible in the pieces, such as breaking down the material and drawing out nuances in monochrome white to convey subtle aesthetic qualities and emotional responses.
This outcome embodies the work she has produced throughout her final year, demonstrating extensive experimentation and pushing the boundaries of working with plaster. Lucy showcases the material’s adaptability and its propensity to create a sensitive experience through the lack of colour. An additional aspect is the unintentional use of natural or synthetic light to provide a range of tones, which can shift and change the overall feel of the piece.
Nuances has developed organically through Lucy’s process, embodying her approach to exploring the materials involved.
