More Tales from a Hard City celebrates 30 years since the release of Kim Flitcroft and Alex Usborne’s extraordinary documentary feature film shot in Sheffield in 1993.
The film tells the story of four chancers and dreamers re-inventing themselves in a steel city facing the end of industry.
The film was described as ‘ the greatest comedy Mike Leigh never made ‘ by The Independent and as ‘gut wrenchingly hilarious’ by the NME and fans include Badly Drawn Boy, Jarvis Cocker and Mogwai.
Using photography and archival material alongside screenings of both the film and earlier boxing film Johnny Fantastic, the exhibition explores why this film has had such a long and successful life and why it has attracted so many obsessive fans.
