Unquiet Landscapes

Joanna Whittle is a painter and curator based in Sheffield. She is Vice Chair of Contemporary British Painting, an artist-led organisation which explores current discourse in British painting through exhibitions, talks, publications, and other activities. This talk will focus on her curation of Unquiet Landscapes at Yorkshire Artspace, an exhibition showcasing 38 artists. The exhibition continues a series celebrating contemporary painting in Britain which will include the presentation of the biennial Contemporary British Painting Prize in September 2026. Whittle is a founding member of the Heavy Water Collective, who recently curated Gathering Landscapes at Weston Park Museum. Her recent solo projects include exhibitions at the Whitaker Museum, National Fairground & Circus Archive, Harley Gallery and Charlie Smith London. She is a lead artist for the Contemporary Art Academy and painting lecturer for the Open College of Arts. She was shortlisted for First Prize in the John Moores Painting Prize 2025.
