Finding the Form’s Best Mode of Expression

5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

This masterclass will explore how storyteller, Rebecca Dye, makes a living as a storyteller, podcaster, and alternative games designer. We will consider storytelling as an oral tradition, and the heritage and power of not being bound to the page; explore fiction podcasting as something between the improvisation of oracy and script; consider how story is experienced in gameplay through core game mechanics. Ultimately asking ourselves, how do we want to share our craft? Why? And how might this practically be achieved? Dye will share her approach to working as a freelance storyteller, finding paid work, and creating and maintaining working relationships.

Dye is an experienced storyteller and workshop leader working with diverse audiences from the ages of 3 to 93, and with a variety of needs from SEND to early onset dementia. She creates story experiences ranging from live, interactive performances aimed at families, to telling folktales aimed more towards adults since these stories were never really ‘for’ children. She is a fiction podcaster and her show, Diary of a Space Archivist, has been featured on BBC Radio Podcast Hour.  She also creates alternative games and game experiences such as the YouTube choose-your-own-adventure game, Quest For the Eldon Beast, (which was for the Barnsley Heritage Action Zone).
