Charles Powell carried out a placement year at JC Bamford Excavators Ltd (JCB) working in their innovation centre. This is a confidential area within JCB where concept machines are imagined, prototyped and built. During his time here Powell spent time drawing and designing various components and body parts for a range of JCB machines. After spending time in the innovation centre Powell moved to work in JCB’s in-house design studio ‘DesignWorks’ where he helped design JCB marketing material, from printed brochures to promotional video and social media. Powell worked on the marketing and branding associated with JCB’s sponsorship of the ‘Racing Point’ Formula 1 team, working on a range of promotional products and the livery and decals for the car. Powell was also involved in the promotional brief for the JCB Fastrac ‘World’s Fastest Tractor” which featured in a TV programme with
Guy Martin.
