Studying at Sheffield Hallam University and completing a placement at Object Studio has solidified Harvey McKellar’s passions for furniture design and human-centered design. Throughout Harvey’s time at the university, all of their projects have consistently incorporated an element of human-centered design. The projects selected by the tutors provided McKellar with diverse avenues to explore within this field. Their projects have revolved around creating conversations, encouraging human interaction, and addressing issues of loneliness, all with a strong link to mental health and well-being.

While Harvey has a strong desire to pursue a career in furniture design, they recognize that the university has equipped them with the necessary tools to explore various avenues within the design field. Being a part of the BA product design course brought immense joy to Harvey. The course had a small and intimate setting, allowing them to develop close relationships with their course mates. The friendships and connections formed during their four years at Hallam hold equal value to the academic knowledge gained. The course itself was engaging, and the supportive environment created by the tutors made the university experience genuinely enjoyable and fun. McKellar will genuinely miss being a part of the BA Product Design program but expresses immense gratitude for the connections and experiences it provided them.
