Jade Coates is a Sheffield-based artist who works and practices painting, drawing, and photography.
She explores themes including the human condition, figuration, and responses of the figure. She finds much interest in the self and identity, a recurring theme in many of her works. Coates attempts to capture raw and upfront interpretations of her body and peers – challenging and risking herself in unnerving, concerning situations. She employs a subdued, muted, almost monotone colour scheme in her paintings, drawings and photographs, embodying life’s neutrality and melancholy experiences.
