Sol Rowland
Sol Rowland is a third-year animation student at Sheffield Hallam University, based in Sheffield, England. A lifelong creative, Sol’s passion for art has been a constant since school days. During the COVID-19 quarantine, Sol channeled this passion into founding a small art business on Etsy called ToucanTeeth, where prints, cards, and stickers are sold. Studying animation has been a fascinating journey, culminating in the creation of an original film. Inspired by the broader field of film, Sol plans to pursue a career in video editing at the master’s level after graduation.

Sol’s film, What We Could Lose, is a 2D rotoscoped animation focusing on lions. Rotoscoping was chosen for its ability to maintain realism and highlight the real-world issues addressed in the film. A lifelong fascination with animals and the natural world guided the decision to base the final project on this theme. The film aims to spread awareness about the lesser-known environmental plight of lions, one of Sol’s favourite animals.
