Sophie Georgiou, an English/Cypriot artist, explores brutalist realities of multiculturalism through sculptural artworks. Informed by her own experiences and her grandfather’s wartime and land politics narratives, her work confronts deceitful miseducation and truth distortion. Straddling the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot perspectives, she navigates her own identity placement. Using daffodils as a symbol linking to Greek mythology, Sophie employs concrete and bronze casting, influenced by her civil engineering background, to convey permanency and weightiness. Her research integrates sculpture with new technologies, offering a medium for broader audiences to connect with migration and identity themes.
