Victoria Ashley
Victoria Ashley is immersed in the conservation of her heritage and the indigenous Ghanian ideographic language, which is disappearing in the face of rapid globalisation, shrouded by misinformation outside of the native community.

Victoria lived in Ghana for 5 years and learnt the local language (Akan). She came to realise that Ghanaians have a nuanced and deeply meaningful method of communication called the Adinkra.

A pictorial language which represents a visual philosophy of her culture and richly inspires my work. She feels the deep connection to her ancestry in the meaning and idioms associated as well as the striking aesthetics.
