Adapting to the challenge of the Covid 19 lockdown Alice Beech’s video Strategies communicates the final few months of the third year of her degree year. Repetitive, rhythmic and associative, this stream-of-consciousness filmed typed writing expresses the Groundhog Day feel of lockdown in a highly personalised and devastatingly honest confession to viewers.
“I wrote about what I was thinking and I photographed what I saw whilst out and about seeing changes – which viewers may be able to resonate with. Viewers are invited to read my thoughts as I make a video. I want my audience to feel that the video is relatable, as I talk through my experience of lockdown, finishing university, exercise and what to have for tea.”
Her work is conceptually, socially and politically informed. Working across media she communicates thoughts and surroundings through a process of abstract recreation, experiments in media feeding subsequent projects.
“In my practice I develop across many disciplines to express my ideas utilizing findings from material testing, developed from painting”.
She hopes to work in Art Therapy, and during the course of her degree has participated in numerous exhibitions in and beyond the university.
