SW_Catherine Etheridge Degree Show 1 – CATHERINE ETHERIDGE

Six resolved, mixed media prints by Cat Etheridge explore and challenge the fundamental features of interior space. Each work is small-scale, with a screen-print foundation surface, and onto this line is layered using fine tip pen, to consider the new space that develops as the different layers, perspectives and compositions communicate upon the surface.

Etheridge’s practice explores space in relation to contemporary art and design methodologies, with the contextual understanding that certain physical design qualities of a space can trigger different psychological responses within the occupant or viewer. She has developed a distinctive and personal value of space within her practice where certain processes, such as layering and the use of line to refine an interior down to its most fundamental physical qualities, introduce a sense of empty space into which the viewer can project their own feelings of atmosphere.
Etheridge continues to learn and develop as an artist and plans to continue her studies in Sheffield.
