A collection mixed media collage pieces and 3d metal car parts painted in the same expressive style. In Holly Mullaney’s practice she has been trying new styles that to make these small collage like pieces, mainly using pulp paper because she found she like the look and feel to the texture of it when mixed with spray paint. Mullaney originally planned on making a large piece and possibly using sculpture but after deliberations, she realised it didn’t match her work to be doing one large piece instead making a larger quantity of small works. This allowed her to work on multiple pieces at once which meant she would get as pedantic about trying to make them perfect and instead the followed better and usually hand an outcome she was happier with. So instead of large pieces as was shown in my last proposal she wants to display her mixed media collage pieces as a collection.
Mullaney’s aim for her practice was to refine a personal style for herself as an artist and try be more confident in her work but to also keep pushing herself. Mullaney says: “I have been trying to push myself to create more work regularly and to be less critical of what I do make. I started trying bit of collage in my work using old car magazine I collected with my dad. Hester then helped my realise this was a personal part of my work that I think really shines through and although I wanted to lean away from the influences of men that I can’t, I see thing very methodical as my dad always taught me through engineering and his influence created this love of cars through me.”
For this final piece Mullaney wants to lean into those influences. She has been embracing the car aspects to my work using colour pallets from old rally car livery’s and hot rod styling and been experimenting painting on car part with the styles she has been adapting. Mullaney would like to display her collage mixed media pieces with the car parts she painted and others she has collected over years with my dad, including quotes from my own writing in diary to create a collage on the wall that will hopefully show a lot of her and her inspirations in art.
