Emma Shaw works with mixed media to create beautiful pieces of work. Acrylic paintings and flowers are the main feature of her work, exploring how the two can work together as one piece of art. Inspired by fine art, Shaw researched Rococo art and interiors, Dutch floral artists, and looking at how modern florists are creating today. ‘Grand Gesture’ is the best representation of Shaw’s practice, focusing on the theme of weddings. Shaw explored how we can invest in fine art through weddings.
The piece features a landscape painting which portrays the symbolism of love; all aspects of the piece have been carefully considered, including representations important to her own love story, Shaw has included bluebirds, swans and bows, demonstrating how these paintings can be personalised. There is also a dried floral aspect within the work, representing the everlasting love a marriage symbolises. These arrangements are placed upon wooden floral plinths, designed and stained by Shaw. Selected for their direct link to weddings, these plinths bring the work together. This piece of work is as a result of Shaw’s creativity and love for art and weddings.
