‘I Can See Daylight’ is an oil paint on MDF series subtly exploring the nuances and paradoxical emotions felt in memories throughout Elizabeth Morgan’s adult life. In this artwork, Morgan curates a reflective journey through the mundane moments in her healing process following an experience of sexual violence. Whilst the piece focuses on self-portraiture, Morgan punctuates the series with small-scale paintings crediting the connections, environments and interpersonal dynamics that facilitated her recovery. By animating natural and artificial lights, the artist aims to create dimension which, when considered with the intricately painted edges of each piece, is immersive and engaging. Balancing these techniques, the voyeuristic series of paintings hopes to resonate with the female gaze and challenge viewers’ to reconsider their perception of healthy emotional wellbeing.
