Cumulus Student Talent Camp
Jaipur 23

In the Autumn of 2023, the Department of Art & Design at Sheffield Hallam University coordinated a short study experience at the Cumulus, Student Talent Camp Jaipur in India. This experience was hosted by ARCH College of Design & Business and was the first Cumulus Student Talent Camp. The theme ‘Design Identity Direction’ focused on Learning from Living Traditions and working towards SDGs in a regional and global context.

The aim was to create inspiring exceptional learning environments that foster engagement, networking, collaboration,  and knowledge exchange under the umbrella of art, media and design education and research in an open and friendly   atmosphere that celebrates the increasingly diverse and global nature of the Cumulus family.

Iona Peat, who is a final year student on BA Fashion Design was selected and attended the camp, and was able to share her experience:

“The student talent camp held by the Cumulus Association has been a very valuable experience. I found the site visits on the first two days of the camp to have opened my eyes to the process of how a lot of the manufacturing is done in  India and the craftsmanship and time that goes into making handmade products. The businesses we went and visited was individual and different from each other, we also saw multiple steps of the process from the design to the final product in a shop. The last three days was particularly interesting when the camp was divided into groups and to talk about our opinions on the site visits and come up with a problem statement with sustainability in mind, as we were
from different backgrounds such as Estonia, Belgium, Finland, New Delhi, and UK it was very interesting to hear everyone thoughts compared to their home. I went to many different sites and day trips to try and take in as much of the culture and Jaipur that I could.”
