Ellie Marcou is a fibre artist from Sheffield who works with crochet, yarn and textiles, producing crochet masks out of these. Her work is contemporary and predominantly centred around challenging the traditional views of the gallery. Marcou questions if it is acceptable to show the process inside of a professional space. Her practice is about appreciating women’s craft and introducing free form crochet into a world that currently (in her opinion) , does not value textiles as much as other mediums. She incorporates interactive elements into her work as she wants the individual to be reduced to anonymity when behind the masks.
