Katie Round’s practice is deeply routed through her northern upbringing. Coming from a working-class background, art hasn’t always been accessible to her demographic. Her goal is to bring a northern viewpoint in art space that can feel unwelcoming. Inspired by northern soul music, which was a pivotal point in her childhood and family memories, she created realistic portraits so her family could connect to her art. Evolving, she now experiments with various mediums painting, photography and sculpture to express her love of music in a refined, relevant way to experience her northern heritage in a meaningful visual narrative.
