Shannon Thorpe’s work revolves around her experience with folklore and how it is relevant to society today. In a time of unrest, political discourse and constant streams of media being forced upon us she wants to let people; escape, to focus on something whimsical, magical and childlike.
“Folklore changes over time as it’s shaped by the teller; I aspire to do this through my art, taking hold of narratives that will in turn be interpreted differently by the recipient. Using skills I develop through drawing, cutting and sculpting I want to recount these stories and bring their magic into our world” – Shannon Thorpe
