Emily Reading’s practice explores the seductive aesthetics of fashion and glamour, interrogating how luxury imagery functions within a consumerist society. Through both physical and digital collage, she recontextualizes visual languages typically found in high fashion editorials such as Vogue, to question who these images are made for, and who gets to access them. Using affordable, found materials, her physical collages emphasize tactility and accessibility, confronting the gap between aspiration and reality. Reading says: ‘I translate these works into digital formats to engage with the visual strategies of contemporary media, blurring the line between critique and imitation in a world obsessed with surface and status.’
