Touch Me!

Andrei Jakab’s collection represents a set of curated mysteries that act as tests of the wearer’s self-control. Each piece takes the form of a pouch or container, in a suggestive shape reminiscent of an inflated bag, which contains within it a hidden treasure. Each piece is created by making a mould of temporary inflated bags and then casting them in porcelain to make them a permanent fixture. Through this technique, Jakab is able to capture the creases and folds of the bags, creating an illusion of an enticing, voluminous shape of the porcelain.

The concept of the piece is to act as a temptation to the wearer, and a provocation to consider the notion of ‘reward’. To solve the mystery, finding out what’s contained within the piece, the wearer must open the ‘packet’, but through this process the jewellery is destroyed, leading the wearer to regret seeking the reward. Is this split-second feeling of gratification worth more than the regret of ripping jewellery and destroying it?
