Many times emotional fragility cannot be expressed in words. It needs a new language to convey emotions. Xiaoyuan Ma has designed large-scale jewellery extending the body to creates a protective space which yet encourages emotions to be discovered when touched. Ma’s works are rooted in the revolutionary late 1960s to 1980s European conception of jewellery, using geometric forms to create wearable objects. Ma says: “I do not want my jewellery pieces sitting on conventional parts of the body like the neck and fingers. I want people to think about jewellery in relation to the body and its external space in a new perspective.’’
