Signwriting is a style of calligraphy that consists of stylish, yet legible aesthetics, and for Matt Van Noordt / Hexx Inkworks it offers a quick way to produce visually appealing, yet easily readable writing.

Hexx Inkworks’ hs used a combination of a Sharpie for the chisel tip, and graffiti mop marker for the rounded tip to create athe signwritten copy, whilst the the textures of the previous experiments were re-used as images. All is then scanned and brought together in InDesign.

Hexx Inkworks’ visuals are immersed in punk and skate culture delighting in the expressionist movement of mosh pits and graffiti. It is not uncommon to see markers used in his work, from black fine liner to a wide tipped paint marker alongside aerosol paints.

“I love texture. I feel so strongly about it because it is such a genuine feature and just adds so much more character to any piece of work, not to mention how you can create interesting results out of the simplest things.”

Hexx Inkworks has been awarded various mural, logo and artistic commissions and creates video content for TikTok. He is currently undertaking a drawing course and developing his entrepreneurial skills, in particular working with social media.
