Yuxin Liu uses ideas of time travel and parallel universes to explore the future relationship between jewellery exhibition and retail displays and as worn – and the varying ways this communicates ideas. Liu notes: “Jewellery display is an integral part of jewellery design. It enhances people’s interest in jewellery and the display case is an important part of the display and I want my jewellery to be relevant to the human body on the outside but to the objects stored on the inside.”

Liu sees this difference through a vision of time and space as is interspersed and overlapping. Liu suggests: “This is one universe, this is another universe, they are parallel universes, but through this intersection in the middle, something from this space-time can travel to another universe, that’s time travel. In my jewellery, it looks like the stones can move through each other through the point in the middle, creating the idea of time travel”.
