Harriet Crossley has explored ways to educate and raise awareness of the issues surrounding consumption and fast fashion to Generation Z consumers. This includes how they can extend their life cycle of clothes and promote buying ethical, second-hand clothing rather than new, mass-produced items. The topic area of awareness includes how garment workers are treated and how fast fashion brands are ‘tricking’ us into thinking they are being sustainable when they are not. Crossley created an Instagram campaign and a photoshoot showing the clothing she had made: the dress was second-hand from vinted with buttons sewn on and the co-ord was made from second-hand bedding from a local charity shop. The plastic bags were sourced from her home and embellished with patch work. The photoshoot was directed by Crossley in collaboration with industry professionals.
