It is Lin Hanyao’s observation that people use jewellery not only as decoration, but as a language to express their personality. It is Hanyao’s aim to make wearers feel like their true selves when wearing the work.
Hanyao created these brooches to help people frame their identity, whilst complimenting their clothing, contouring to personal taste.
By wearing the brooch, the wrinkles around the object can magnify your character, while assembling and pinning the brooch onto your clothing becomes a ritual in itself. This is Hanyao’s first time exhibiting their work in their home country of China and sharing their work with an international audience which they hope will push themselves out of their comfort zone. Lin Hanyao hopes to use their frames to let people have a new perspective on contemporary jewellery.
