Referencing British music, icons and even the bus seats we sit on every day, Isobel O’Connor’s collection You Get What You’re Given takes an unapologetic look into British culture and the working class that influences it. Full of humour it delights in British idiosyncrasies and wit. Her diffusion line, SPUNK, with its edgy radical twist, is aimed squarely at a British youth. Heavy, androgynous, graphic and in-your-face approach it is reminiscent of Punk but far more crude and intended for Autumn/Winter 2021.
With the help of reference images, these illustrations were drawn freehand, with watercolour building depth, colour and pattern before a final crayon finish to create further depth and highlights. Detailed line work and mark making has been used when shading to create a more interesting overall effect. Photoshop has been used only in restraint, to edit the pieces and to fix any areas that were troubled.
