Yanan Zou’s grandfather suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and passed away last year. Zuo explains:
“I designed this jewellery set in the hope that more people will pay attention to Alzheimer’s patients and give them more patience and help, but this jewellery set is more of an expression of my indebtedness and guilt toward my grandfather. When making this jewellery set, I took into consideration the two most important physical changes of Alzheimer’s disease, namely visual changes and loss of speech. I wanted to convey the interactive experience of Alzheimer’s disease: through the combination of different materials, the experience of eye limitation associated with Alzheimer’s disease symptoms, the visual vertigo produced by the colours, the sense of dislocation and blurring of the visual focus, and the sound produced by shaking the jewellery, rather than speech”.
