“Strangers. Friends. Best friends. Lovers. Strangers.”
Bamboo is stronger than steel. In many parts of the world it is used as scaffolding for building. Yet this strength only builds as the bamboo matures, over time. Young bamboo, by contrast, is fragile and can easily shatter. These jewellery objects comment on the contrasting experiences we all share over the course of our romantic relationships.
Haiyin Wang’s jewellery collection uses young bamboo and metal junctions to construct wearable pieces that allow us to question what makes a solid and healthy relationship – and to consider how easily these connections can be broken.
