The marks on walls and doors traditionally used for communication between thieves, have inspired Senzi’s collection of jewellery. These hidden would be drawn after observing a house, and form a secret way of communicating. For example, a triangle means there is a woman living alone. A circle means there is a lot of money. The shape of a ladder means there is danger here, please leave as soon as possible. Senzi says:

“I believe that these symbols represent a prejudice against the division of people and an act of labelling people. Therefore, I used these symbols as a source of inspiration to make a jewellery set which expresses the disapproval of labelling and the strong insecurity of girls living in today’s world.”

In this collection Senbzi has used a traditional Chinese material called lacquer, which has a very special instability. After the lacquer is made, it takes more than a year for the colour to stabilise, during which time more exposure to sunlight deepens the colour of the lacquer. For Senzi this encourages the wearer the will to embrace more sunlight and to break the labelling by wearing the label.
