A narrative of communication through personal possessions found within the home. Inspired by her grandparents, who travelled Europe collecting from antique fairs, Jess Levick‘s womenswear collection, South Avenue, explores the themes of sentimentalism and nostalgia. The home could be considered mundane, a blank canvas, almost a gallery to fill; to stimulate interest, memories and conversation between guests.
Design inspiration was taken from shape, colour, and pattern within these objects and translated into a silhouette and cutting details to formulate an eight-look womenswear capsule collection for spring-summer. It features sustainable fabrication, elegant and easy garments and digital printing. 3D fashion design software Clo3D was used to develop the collection, using true-to-life simulation to sample garments.
“Get Your Kicks” is a trend-focused diffusion line, which shares the story of a young couple’s romance on a summer road trip across America. The idea of reminiscing over summer nights captures the essence of this project and is relatable to many. Print, colour, and details take inspiration from sights across Route 66, and popular motels in the 1970s. The project inspired an autumn-winter range, focused on comfortable layering, suitable to the target market the everyday young women.
Levick believes the fashion industry needs to act with ethics and sustainability at its core, choosing a business model dedicated to sustainable design. BY BESSY brand was developed to highlight the importance of zero waste, longevity, and traceability within the design process.
