Casey Winfield’s collection is a statement on how we put personal sentiment before environmental issues. In our society, we see materials as disposable without thinking about how long they last or how they affect our plant life and other animals we share the Earth with. However, when we do think of natural materials that do decay and rot away, we are disgusted by it. This shows that we take for granted the materials that we do use without any thought to our future or our environment. Winfield’s work investigates the sustainability of materials to hope the viewers see the meaningfulness and beauty of decay for our planet. Winfield has explored and tested different materials to find a way of changing people point of view towards decay.
