Adesh Tolumbia is a jewellery maker from India, with a keen interest in experimenting with the mundane objects of everyday life, to develop them into purposeful wearable art. Adesh’s process involves manipulation through photography, collage making, and drawing, to turn the bizarre and the grotesque into something precious. His final year collection, ‘Trypophobia’, showcases this process through the familiar-yet-alien world of food waste, and is named after the fear of clusters of small holes – the tell-tale sign of mould on rotting food. 

During his placement year, Adesh took the chance to revisit his roots in India, working with local goldsmiths in different parts of the country to gain an insight into the functioning of the jewelry industry at grass roots level. He plans to pursue this work in his career, creating an ethical and fair-trade link between the artisans of India and a worldwide audience, and helping these workers find a sustainable future in a world of fast fashion.
