This project proposes a contemporary co-living environment within Sellers Wheel in Sheffield city centre. It is designed for young adults aged 18–35, including students and young professionals looking for affordable, social, and community-focused urban living.
The scheme explores how interior architecture can balance private and shared spaces to support interaction, wellbeing, and a sense of belonging. Instead of a traditional residential layout, the design creates a more connected way of living where people can naturally meet, share experiences, and feel part of a community.
On the ground floor, interactive workshop spaces help activate the building and bring people together. These include perfume making and matcha making workshops, designed as hands on, social experiences for both residents and visitors. These spaces encourage informal interaction and create a welcoming, lively atmosphere.
A restaurant is also located on the ground floor and is open to both residents and the public, helping to connect the building with the wider city and increase its social energy.
The first and second floors contain studio apartments designed for comfort, privacy, and practicality. Shared lounge areas are included on each level to encourage casual interaction while still allowing personal space. A ground floor garden and a rooftop seating area provide additional places to relax, meet others, and enjoy time outdoors.
The material palette combines soft, natural finishes such as ash plaster, grey oak, and muted almond tones. Greenery is used throughout the scheme to bring warmth, improve wellbeing, and create a stronger connection to nature.
