Echo with Nature

“How can jewellery be therapeutic by providing a nature-like multi-sensory experience? What will be the needs for the future development of contemporary jewellery?”

Xueling Jin’s Echo with Nature is a series therapeutic jewellery works, which can help improve wearer’s inner peace and wellbeing by providing a nature-like multi-sensory soothing experience. Materials textures and structures evoke the experience of blossom or grassland, of hearing the wind, or playing with water.

Jin has also made an experimental short film and a booklet which can be seen as a whole with the jewellery, a multi-sensory comfort experience.

Association of Blossom
Wearable artefact. Vegetable dyed silk thread, silk and copper thread. "I designed and produced Association Of Grassland And Blossom by imitating the features of grassland and blossom from the visual and tactile perspectives. This piece was inspired by the traditional Chinese craft Rong Hua.

Hearing the wind
Wearable artefact. Acrylic. A ring that can make sound. When the wearer waves it in the air, the wind makes a sound through the whistle-like structure inside the ring. Similarly Playing with Watering (top) Emulates the experience of playing in a river: every time a person wears it and uses it to hold water, the water will leak out through the pores and flow through the fingers "just as what always happens when we poke the river water".
Hearing the wind
The wearing method of Hearing The Wind and Playing with Watering was inspired by the movements of people touching their lovers’ hands.
Holding the Earth
Hold piece. Soil and brass
Echo with Nature
Booklet. Vegetable dyed paper, felt and silk thread. A 'mental grooming guide' allowing readers to see colours and pictures, and touch different materials at the same time.
