TOROT

TOROT is a series of recreations and memory card games based on the Tarot. The main aim is to explore the extent to which humans are influenced by their subconscious mind and by external factors.

The creation of this series is the subject of a study of Tarot divination as an external factor influencing the human subconscious. Shuyin Huang chose this for his project as humans had perceived the world through non-scientific ways, such as: divination. However, this was forced into marginalisation and even opposition. This was because the natural sciences provided a guide to understanding the world and evidence could be found for everything. However, there is more evidence that increasingly behaviour and attitudes coexist with scientific beliefs and worldviews. Tarot is the most popular form of divination and an art style that has had a lasting influence on artists and designers. Therefore it is a project worthy of in-depth creation as well as exploring the balance between the proportions of tarot divination and personal intentions.

Many artists have reworked and reshaped the visual interpretation of the Tarot in different centuries, spaces and cultures. Huang is interested in experimenting with a wide range of printing methods and experimented with a variety of print experiments to explore his personal style during the project, such as screen printing, etching and risograph.

The content of the work was also created by drawing a multitude of sketching to create the specific content of each image. The final content of this series of card designs is based on the traditional elements of each tarot card. The theme of the project is also interpreted through a memory card game. It is the idea that divination can predict the unknown future but still determine the unknown outcome through inner reflection and self-choice.
