After living in Berlin and experiencing the free, easy-going and accepting nature of the city, Alice Roy explores what makes Berlin feel so united. Looking closely the Berlin Wall and the emotions and feelings of those living through extremely tough times, Roy highlights the reunification of Berlin, including design features and colour. She uses upcycled and patch-worked jeans to represent the rebuilding of the city and adds concrete to the bottom of the jeans to signify the journey. The marks of the concrete show where the wearer has been and how far they have come. The concrete wall will fade just as the emotions and feelings will, but remnants will remain forever. Remembering such a monumental time in history is important to the city and shows how far they’ve come.
