By definition, the sexual double standard is judging men and women differently for the same sexual based behaviour. We see this mostly when men are being praised for sexual contact, yet women are degraded and referred to as a ‘slut’. Jessica Campbell’s project, “Another Bullsh*t Double Standard” (ABSDS), is inspired by the lack of modern day sexual education in schools that often lead to these issues of judgment and inequality.
Another Bullsh*t Double Standard is a social media platform which aims to educate and empower young people in defying sexual double standards in society. Using augmented reality (AR), the stickers can be scanned to link phones to the ABSDS main instagram account, as a form of promotional advertisement. By using social media, Campbell’s ABSDS hopes to subtly and visually communicate, by informing people on the platform with daily media feeds. This aspect takes away the connection of school, whilst taking advantage of the addictive and subconscious effect of social media, to use it for good. The platform uses quotes, articles, art, and podcasts to share relevant information in order to provide inclusivity with a range of different communities of the younger generation.
