Inspired by the monumental, but often controversial Brutalist style of architecture, Anna McNiven has designed a collaborative library, gallery and workshop space as an extension to Sheffield Railway Station.

An important access point for the city centre, the building capitalises on its location as it seeks to encourage large numbers of people to engage with creative activities. Stacked over five stories, each level takes on an important role – gallery, library, and workshop and collaborative workspace. The building’s style (a reference to Sheffield’s important Modernist architectural heritage) is playful, expressing the activities within.
