Skunk‘s project, “Deface a Rapist” was a project aimed to fight back against white men in power that get away with sexual assault/rape with few or no consequences.
Skunk’s intention was to create a constructive workshop, in which people could get together, along with huge printed posters of perpetrators and their alibis, or their reasoning for committing an offence, for groups to tear it apart and deface it. The aim being, Skunk notes: “to create a positive way of challenging anger towards situations like these, as an alternative to the meditation we’re normally suggested to do instead”. This workshop idea came from the need of a way to channel strong emotions in a safe space, so they created it to accommodate for that lack of space. Using a mix of type, photography and markers (Skunk’s go-to tool) they were able to bring the workshop to reality.
