“How can jewellery and metalwork show the joy of doodling? (How can jewellery and metalwork convey the designer’s understanding and feelings of things?)”
Taking procrastination as a starting point, Jingyan Tian has used jewellery design and experiments with a variety of unconventional materials to explore doodling. The project analyses different ways of procrastinating in thought and behaviour. In contrast to the prevalent view of doodling as timewasting, Tian sees doodles as a way of understanding the development of an artist’s work as well as an activity which brings happiness in its own right: “This project is not only an exploration of the theme, but also a process that helps me to better improve my design thinking and way of thinking. In this project, I considered a lot of interaction with the audience and the expression of personal thoughts and emotions. For me, this work is more inclined to self-reflection and correction. Compared to the final output, the way of thinking learned in the process is more meaningful to me”.
