This was a D&AD project set by Duolingo to come up with an idea to bring users back to complete their daily lessons on their language learning app.
Jacob Rayner created a partnership with Netflix/Duolingo to create a new concept, Duoflix. This partnership creates a new set of subtitles that allow the user to click on each subtitled word and see what it means in a chosen language while watching their chosen show or film.
Netflix has lots of original content from multiple countries, so why not learn French while watching Lupin, English with Sex Education, Korean with Squid Games, or Spanish with Money Heist. After each season there is also a mini quiz that allows the user to test out words and phrases from what they have watched in their chosen language. Rayner’s intention is that this will encourage people to be eager and want to learn more by going on to the Duolingo app and completing more lessons.
