“To what extent could we convey the sense of supporting between people and present it audibly in contemporary jewellery design?”
Jinglin Mei has produced a range of conceptual contemporary jewellery to support enhance mental health. Hear the Supporting seeks to audibly support wearers, reminding them of important things, places and people and helping to make them feel supported by others. For Mei “the works are a way to help the audience feel the spiritual strength of this feeling of support so that they will be able to face difficulties or problems in their life more easily”.
The project makes striking use of acrylic finished by techniques including sawing, and laser cutting.
Mei’s future career plan is to become an independent jewellery designer. Through the MA course at Sheffield Hallam University, she has mastered professional techniques and design skills. She says “I believe that the knowledge I have learned can well support me to realize my future career”.
