“To what extent can jewellery be more enticing not just visually but also through the sense of smell and therefore become a sensory experience?”
Kaveree Yadav’s jewellery collection Encapuslating the Aura of Flora explores the co-relation of humankind with nature and our dependence on it not only for our survival but also for intangible things like emotions and memories. Inspired by the jasmine tree at her family home, Yadav examines the relationship between nostalgia and scent: “I think about all the moments shared with my family how the jasmine flowers were an important part of all our celebrations and I miss my family even more. Smell is the strongest of senses when it comes to association with memories and emotions”
Her work aims to innovate the genre of Aroma Jewellery, moving away from the gadgetry and functional looking metal, glass and ceramic containers which normally characterise it. Instead, bamboo strips act as a material to carry the perfume while equally forming aesthetic components. For the wearer, the multisensory experience is personalized through the choice of their own fragrance, whilst retaining a sense of mystery for onlookers. The pieces are handcrafted in brass metal along with resin and bamboo.
