The theme of this project is exploring programmed living and experiencing micro-derailments. It was inspired by Siyu Li’s life of two points and one line.
Recording and photographing aspects of her life, she found that she was living a programmed life everyday, based on the material she collected. Worried that this would diminish Li’s awareness of new things, she wanted to focus her project on inventing a way to keep it interesting and experience a different life.
In this project, Li made twenty random cards and randomly selected five of them to experience five days of micro-deranged life change. Through making two sets of fonts she harnesses her life trajectory in the form of wireframes and small squares. She presents her work in the form of a publication and video. Blue is before the change and red is after that change.
The detail shows the change of font and trajectory displacement before and after the micro derailment. Li says “I hope the audience can feel the interest brought by different lifestyles and reflect on what kind of lifestyle they are most suited for”.
