MUTANT-NATION

Tamara Ragoonanan graduate collection MUTANT-NATION is based on fears over 5G telecoms implementation across the world. Ragoonanan sees fashion as a source of protection. Inspired by the film Annihilation which sees a new entity force humans to rapidly evolve and mutate, merging their DNA with plants and animals resulting in unsettling new forms. MUTANT-NATION is set in the near future, a post-apocalyptic landscape where the 5G is a part of day-to-day life yet damaging to human health. It is a collection of ‘mutated’ everyday and outerwear garments with strong textures and silhouettes.

Ragoonanan’s practice and process is organic and derived from real-world experience, from travel, politics or culture. Ragoonanan has valuable industry experience through live briefs with Vivienne Westwood and Amanda Wakeley, where she was fortunate enough to be offered a placement.
